“Throughout college and high school, I didn't fully understand what knowledge would be useful for my career path. With the ways technology changes, a lot of knowledge gained in courses might not actually be used years from now. However, something Stevens has taught me is how to learn. Knowing how to approach a problem, what resources I need to solve it, and how to evaluate that answer is integral engineering knowledge that I will use consistently throughout my career and life.
Throughout my time at Stevens, I participated in several clubs and engineering honor societies. As a founding member of the Stevens Poker Club, I served as the first secretary on the executive board. In Pi Tau Sigma, the mechanical engineering honor society, I had the opportunity to teach underclassmen in exam review sessions. Both of these activities helped me strengthen my communication skills to convey information professionally and clearly.
I can’t help but reflect on the scholarship support I received at Stevens, such as the American Bureau of Shipping Scholarship, which gave me the opportunity to focus on pursuing my career goals. I was able to gain experience from three co-op placements, one each involving construction engineering, chemicals and data analysis. That experience helped me because I knew what I was looking for when I started my job search. I look forward to starting my career as a thermal engineer at McDermott Lummus Technology in New Jersey after graduation. My career goal is to always challenge myself and never be bored.”
