Tatyana Kaverina

B.E. Biomedical Engineering ’12
M.E. Mechanical Engineering ’13

"As an engineering school, Stevens does a good job in developing critical problem-solving skills. These skills are not only helpful at work, but can at times help out in other aspects of life."

As a senior engineer with Stryker, Tatyana works with orthopaedic surgeons to design new hip implants and instruments. “I am excited to come to work every day because I know the things I am working on will improve the lives of others. Due to the development of new technologies such as robotics, this is an exciting time to be in my industry.”

She credits Stevens with preparing her for a challenging career. “Stevens provided me with a solid understanding of the skills required when working in the health care industry. The design projects I worked on exposed me to the world of product development. As an engineering school, Stevens does a good job in developing critical problem-solving skills. These skills are not only helpful at work, but can at times help out in other aspects of life.”

Tatyana, who this year will also earn an M.B.A. from NYU, first gained an interest in biomedical engineering during a campus visit. “I was first drawn to the program during an open house when Professor Antonio Valdevit explained the difference between an orthopaedic screw and a construction screw. The concepts and demonstrations I saw that day set me on a path towards the career I have now.”

Tatyana attended Stevens thanks to a scholarship provided by Judith and Joe Kaminski ’60. Like Joe, she graduated from Brooklyn Tech High School. “Without the Kaminski Family Scholarship, I would not have been able to attend Stevens. Furthermore, I probably would not have completed a biomedical engineering program, as not many schools in the NY/NJ area offer a program like the one available at Stevens. Scholarship support is essential for students to reach their goals, realize their potential, and find a career that makes them excited about their future.”
