"The hard reality is that a quality education today is not cheap, but thankfully I was fortunate to obtain a generous amount of financial aid and scholarships that helped alleviate much of the burden of future debt."

Born to a single mother, Peter remembers being younger and looking up the cost of college tuition, and being shocked at the high price. However, with hard work and donor support, he graduated from Stevens and is now completing his last year as a resident physician in the field of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California-San Francisco.

Peter benefited from the Class of 1964 Scholarship. “The hard reality is that a quality education today is not cheap, but thankfully I was fortunate to obtain a generous amount of financial aid and scholarships that helped alleviate much of the burden of future debt. Now, a decade later with debt incurring from a medical school education, I am even more thankful for my Stevens scholarships. This lower debt load frees me from worrying what field of medicine I need to choose in order to pay back my loans, allowing me to practice with the sole purpose of serving the community in which I am most invested.”

At Castle Point, Peter was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Tau Beta Pi, and Khoda. After his residency, he wants to pursue a specialty in minimally invasive gynecological surgery, with a focus on robotic assisted surgeries. He believes he is ready for that next step because of the foundation he built at Stevens. “The superb engineering courses that tested the deepest boundaries of my intellect on a daily basis have definitely proven beneficial now while I grapple with the ever-growing body of literature needed for a successful career in medicine. The vigorous Stevens curriculum and plethora of extracurricular activities trained me to adapt to a fast-moving lifestyle where balancing prioritizes was of paramount importance. This crucial life skill has allowed me to maintain balance while both serving as a young physician and still fulfilling my own non-professional personal goals.”
