Meet Justin Stowe ‘19

Your passion. Our passion. #StevensPride

Class of 1959 Endowed Scholarship recipient, Justin Stowe ’19, is beyond grateful for the generosity of our donors. Currently in his senior year as a Biomedical Engineering major, Justin is working tirelessly to make the most of his time at Stevens. Based on his academic performance in high school, Justin was awarded the Edwin A. Stevens Scholarship. He has consistently earned Dean List’s honors while at Stevens. He participated in the STEP program the summer before entering Stevens and served as a Tutor Counselor Residence Assistant (TCRA) during the 2016 summer where he had the chance to help the incoming class of 2020 STEP class. The role of a TCRA provided a great amount of leadership experience and allowed him to form more bonds within the constantly expanding STEP community at Stevens. Currently, he also actively tutors STEP students in math and sciences courses. Justin sites completing a proof of concept assistive beach wheelchair device during his senior design course as one his greatest academic accomplishments. Outside of the classroom, Justin enjoys playing basketball in the Hoboken parks and playing video games with friends.

After graduation, Justin hopes to pursue a career in the field of biomedical engineering. He is drawn to becoming a biomedical engineer due to his growing interest in prosthesis and would love to pursue a career involving the design and implementation of various medical devices. One sect of prosthetics that captures his interest the most is in the field of neural engineering. According to Justin, “The idea of creating functional movements with electrical impulses created by the brain and implementing this in prosthetics is fascinating to me. This kind of prosthetic advancement can provide the most accurate replication of limb movement and can increase the quality of life for a large amount of the world’s population. My end goal is to increase the quality of life for as many individuals as I can through the field of biomedical engineering and prosthesis.”

In earnest gratitude for the scholarship he received, Justin explains, “The impact of receiving the Class of 1959 Scholarship has allowed me to study another two semesters here at Stevens. This scholarship has helped me rest some of my worries pertaining to the cost of attendance and post college debt. With this scholarship, I can now focus more on my studies. I can enjoy more time on campus that can be spent by getting to know the faculty in the biomedical engineering department instead of trying to focus on how much I need to work and what part times jobs can be found around the city of Hoboken. My goal was to carry out all four years here at Stevens and I am so grateful for the scholarship awarded to me by the Class of 1959.”
