Spotlight on Scholarships at Stevens

Scholarships for Graduates

Scholarships for graduate students enable emerging researchers to work alongside established faculty and pursue innovative solutions. Also known as fellowships, these funds provide students with crucial financial support to meet their expenses while they focus on conducting research and other professional development.

In order to do research,” said Provost Christophe Pierre, “faculty need the best graduate and Ph.D. students, who are the engines of the research enterprise because they work in the labs and help write papers and proposals. Fellowships are fundamental in recruiting the best graduate and Ph.D. students.

Yang Wei M.S. ’17 Ph.D. ’21
Dr. Ajay Bose Memorial Scholarship
Chemistry

Yang receives support from the Dr. Ajay Bose Memorial Scholarship, established by Ben Pramanik M.S. ’73 Ph.D. ’77 in honor of Dr. Bose, a legendary Stevens professor. Yang works with Professor Yong Zhang’s High-Accuracy Computational Chemistry Group, where he is researching heme protein. The results could improve the way human beings circulate blood, process energy, and other functions.

“I have a strong desire to learn and to develop and enrich my work experience,” Yang said. “The Dr. Ajay Bose Memorial Scholarship has inspired me to use my knowledge to help others and the community. I hope one day to help future students achieve their goals, as this scholarship has helped me.

David Shekhtman Ph.D. ’21
American Bureau of Shipping Scholarship
Mechanical Engineering

David currently works in the fields of krypton tagging velocimetry and thermometry. “My research is both experimental and theoretical,” he said, “ranging from shock tunnel design to fluids measurements to solving the Schrödinger’s equation for multiphoton excitation. I work in an exciting, dynamic field the blends quantum mechanics with fluids mechanics.”

A graduate scholarship from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) enables David to pursue his research. “It provides tremendous financial relief, allowing me to feel less constrained to do my research. It also helps me with research expenses, such as textbooks, papers, and plane tickets to conferences. I am thankful that ABS believes in my work.”
