Manuel Perez ’68 Memorial Scholarship

Born in Cuba, Manuel Perez left his homeland alone after the island's Communist revolution. He arrived in the USA alone at age 13. After finishing high school at night, he was accepted at Stevens Institute of Technology. He graduated in 1968 with a BS in Mathematics and later an MS in Mathematics. Following his graduation from Stevens, he worked for Exxon in several roles around the world. In 1982, he developed the Functional Database, which was built into a product called TM1. He founded Sinper Corporation to market TM1, which was later acquired by Applix, Cognos, and then IBM.

Given Manuel’s deep love and commitment to the Stevens Institute of Technology, the Perez Family, his many friends, and business associates created this memorial scholarship in his name to support students furthering their study in mathematics and computer science.
