Preventing Pandemics: Tools of the Trade

ABSTRACT: This lecture will include a discussion of what pandemics are; examples and tools used to monitor, evaluate, and mitigate pandemics; and lessons for the future with respect to COVID-19 and other high consequence pathogens.
BIOGRAPHY: Rohit Chitale is an infectious disease epidemiologist with 20 years of experience in preventing, detecting, and responding to emerging infectious diseases globally. He has significant disease expertise in pediatric infectious diseases including malaria, HIV, and polio, supporting programs over two decades in more than 25 countries in Africa and Asia. He has worked with multiple agencies including the CDC, DoD, WHO, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and is currently a Program Manager focused on disease prevention and detection technology development at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
