Stevens Honor Award

Recognizing notable achievement in a given field.

Since this is envisioned to be the highest Stevens award, the recipient must be clearly recognized inside and outside their field of endeavor. The committee should strive to identify worthy candidates for this award so that it is given every year with no decrease in quality of theawardee.

  • Notable achievement in science (e.g., major discovery, nationally and internationally recognized, significant impact in the field); engineering and technology (e.g., impacting patented invention, major problem solved); medicine (e.g., identifiedor developed a new or improved treatment, procedure, invention; improved community or national health care)
  • Recognized humanitarian (e.g., serving the disenfranchised, improving conditions or health care in third‐world countries, underprivileged or underserved areas); providing key societal leadership for pressing problems
  • Recognized by peers for significant impact in chosen field. Considered a Key Opinion Leader in field.
  • Founded or transformed a corporation and lead it into becoming a recognized, innovative, national and/or world technology leader
  • Elected or appointed to a highly responsible position within local, state, or federal government (e.g., Mayor of a major city, Governor, Senator, Representative, Ambassador, or Cabinet Position)
  • Held major leadership position within a government department or agency such as U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, U.S. Food and Drug Agency, or state environmental protection agency
  • Elected as head of a major society or founder of major society
  • Received or nominated for major national and/or international award (e.g., Nobel Prize laureate, Governor or Presidential Award; American Academy of Medicine Award)
  • Elected to the National Academies of Science or Engineering, and/or Medicine
  • Senior Officer (e.g., CEO) of a Fortune 500 company
  • Received Presidential Award, American Academy of Medicine Award, or other national awards
  • Sought out for national and international committees; selected for key study commissions on issues of national and/or international importance; regular commentator in national publication or media outlet
